- Sound files:
Digital recordings come in a number of file formats: .wav, .aiff,
.mp3. These files are massive and can quickly fill up your web space.
Other types of sound files occupy less space than actual recordings. Websentia
doesn't create digital recordings but we can post your the files
you have. Please be observant of copyrights on music and recordings.
Midi files: General midi
is a uniform scheme of computer files that are read by the synthesizer
built into any computer's sound card. The user's computer interprets the
midi file's data and generates music using that computer's card. Each
computer sounds a little different but this is a great way to convey how
your music sounds using small files that are quick to download and don't
take up a lot of space on your server.
ABC files: ABC format is a very efficient way to offer
audio music as well as sheet music. The user must have software to read
ABC format. This software is relatively inexpensive: ABCMus, ABC2Win,
Melody Assistant are three programs that read ABC files. ABC files can
only be read on Windows systems but ABC is commonly used and very inexpensive.
Websentia can translate your music into ABC format to
allow it for your web users to download.
Scorchmusic: Users who have downloaded the free Scorchmusic
browser plug-in can view scores on line, listen to the music in higher
resolution than Midi or ABC formats, and still have relatively small file
sizes to deal with. For more information on Scorchmusic, go to www.sibeliusmusic.com.
Creating music in this format requires the music publishing software "Sibelius"
(www.sibelius.com). This software
is powerful for both audio files and printed music. Websentia
can create music in this format from printed or handwritten material,
Midi files, or ABC files. For more information on this technology, please
contact us at info@websentia.us
or visit the Sibelius web site at www.sibelius.com.
- Written Music:
Music can be put into a visual format for use on the web and
in print. Traditional notation for classical music, folk, rock, country,
bluegrass, early music (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque), tablature for
a variety of instruments and tunings, even 20th or 21st Century Avante
Garde is possible. Graphics programs and music publishing programs can
create a publishable product in a variety of file formats.
Music can be posted on the web as scores for ensembles, solo parts, short
excerpts, excercises, lessons, you name it. Music examples on the web
can be seen, heard, printed, widely distributed, downloaded and saved
for future use. On the web, your music can serve many purposes and enhance
your services as musician, teacher, composer/arranger, even publisher.
